Manufacturing Processes of Main Asbestos-containing Products
The main asbestos-containing products are construction materials, which are produced after a board making process, compressed asbestos sheets, an asbestos product, and brake lining (dry-type), a friction material.
(1) Construction materials containing asbestos Construction materials containing asbestos consist of asbestos cement products, ECP (extruded product), and roofing materials. Release during the process is as follows:
[1] Release to air
The dust sources are bag opening process, asbestos opening process, measuring process, mixing or kneading process, cutting process, and milling process. All the generated asbestos dust is collected by local filtering gas devices and released from dust collectors to air.
[2] Release to water bodies
Water is used in the mixing or kneading process and board making process. Some factories use the water used in these processes as circulating water, while the other factories discharge it to the outside of the factories after prescribed treatment. Although production of construction materials containing asbestos requires no water, it is used to wash equipments to which asbestos adheres. In this case, some water is used as circulating water and the other is discharged to the outside of the factories after prescribed treatment.
[3] Waste
Waste consists of residual raw asbestos in bags at the bag opening process, cutting waste at the cutting process, defective products at the inspection process, sludge at the wastewater treatment process, collected dusts by dust collectors, and filter cloths. Some factories recycle waste generated through such processes.
